Cotto vs. Marquez: Days of Whine and Roses

?It’s too early to tell if Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Marquez will eventually fight? We all know In boxing that it is hard to totally discard a plan and at this point I would say that anything is possible.”?Gaby Penagaricano, Cotto?s Advisor

There is talk of such a matchup and it likely would be the farewell fight for both. Neither man has been in a dull fight. And neither has lost a fight that he didn?t think he won.

Juan Manuel Marquez is an admitted sore loser (see article by Joseph Santoliquito in Ring Magazine (June 2009), while Cotto has been a less than a gracious loser himself. He often does not participate in post-fight interviews after losses and despite making millions of dollars.

For his part, JMM claimed that he had been robbed ?once again? against Timothy Bradley and expressed doubt over if he’ll continue fighting I have been robbed six times in my career…I need to be more afraid of the judges than my opponent the future Hall of Famer whined.

In Marquez?s opinion, he also should be 4-0 against Pacquiao. Marquez, who fought Pacquiao in 2004, 2008, 2011, and 2012, going 1-2-1 officially, with each bout close and controversial until the fourth fight.

Maybe JMM?s paranoia has some traction inasmuch as in his pro debut, he was disqualified in the first round for a butt-induced cut after a ringside physician ? who Marquez later discovered had a piece of his opponent ? recommended the stoppage. But at times it seems like he has an excuse for every single one of his losses

Against Canelo Alvarez who soundly beat Cotto, Miguel said, ?When you have the opportunity to dominate eight of the twelve rounds, you don?t expect anything less than victory? Cotto said to primerahora.com after his loss to Canelo Alvarez.

If this fight is made, a suitable symmetry would be that either Paulie Malignaggi or Bernard Hopkins?both high ranking whiners– be the commentator.
