The former light-welterweight world champion is stepping up in weight to face WBC middleweight champion Alvarez in Las Vegas.
Khan, 29, has never fought above the 10st 7lb welterweight limit but will go above 11st to face the Mexican – known as Canalo – who has only lost to Floyd Mayweather in his 48-fight career.
And Bolton man Khan is confident of cementing his place in British boxing history with a famous against the odds win.
He said: ?I think a win has to be up there as one of the top ones, it has to be up there with the best.
?The way I want to beat him is in a very good style that people will be like ?wow and I did not expect that?.
?I can prove I am one of the best ever fighters from Britain.
?I know I?m going to be the smaller guy and everyone is going to be thinking ?Amir has got balls, going up a weight he has got balls? but that is not going to make me happy.
?What is going to make me happy is going into this fight against a bigger guy and beating him and making history.
?That is what I?m here to do. I?m definitely going to leave a mark here.
?By beating Canelo, which I will do, people are going to say ?wow, we did think Amir was good but we didn?t think he was this great?.
?It is time to make history and show people how great I am.?
Khan turned down the chance of a possible all-British clash with Kell Brook at Wembley Stadium on June 4 in favour of facing Alvarez.
