CONTRACTUAL problems between former world champion Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. and his representatives forced ALA Promotions to look for a different opponent for promising super bantamweight Albert Pagara.
“We may not push through with Sanchez for Pagara on Feb. 27. He has contract problems with his representatives and we don’t want any complications,” ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
The 21-year-old Pagara was supposed to face Sanchez Jr. in a regional title fight in the main event of Pinoy Pride 35 – ?Stars of the Future? on Feb. 27 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.
?It’s normal in the boxing business, so we would rather not deal with complicated fighters,? said Aldeguer.
With still over a month before the fight date, ALA Promotions is looking for a suitable opponent for Pagara, who is starting to become one of the most promising names in the super bantamweight division.
Pagara is coming off his US debut last year with an impressive sixth round stoppage over William Gonzalez. He is 25-0 with 18 knockouts.
Unbeaten prospects Mark Magsayo and Kevin Jake Cataraja are also featured in ALA Promotions’ first big show of the year.
The 20-year-old Magsayo’s opponent is still Mexican Eduardo Montoya in the main supporting bout.
