Keith Thurman is Becoming Annoying

Unlike the style of Paulie Malignaggi or Andre Ward, when Keith Thurman provided comments during Danny Garcia’s unanimous decision victory over Robert Guerrero this weekend, he came off as a ?me me, me? type even using the Roy Jones Jr third person delivery technique. In an interview caught by FightHype, Thurman said in part:

“Let me hit the real button, okay. The ‘real button’ is: how come is wasn’t versus Amir Khan? Amir Khan has been set up at the top of the WBC and now Danny Garcia just gets to hop [to] 147, ‘here’s a vacancy and I’m gonna take it,’ against NOT the number one contender in the WBC which is Amir Khan. Look man, that’s just touching on the real button a little bit.”

“But outside of that, it’s not Danny’s fault that this is how he got his opportunity. He came, he performed, and he won. He IS now the WBC welterweight champion of the world – he does deserve it regardless of exactly the matchmaking, how he acquired it. Robert Guerrero still put a tremendous fight forward tested Danny, made Danny fight a little different.?

It?s not uncommon for a fighter to build up someone he beat and that?s what he did with ?The Ghost,? but ?One Time? has not earned the right just yet to assume the mantle of Champion in Waiting. Moreover, the addition of the always-hysterical Gus Johnson to the broadcasting team added to the nauseous situation as he constantly fed Thurman?s ego requirements.

Thurman concluded the interview by saying that he plans on beating Shawn Porter first and then he will hone in on Danny Garcia. What Keith forgot to say was that, he was reeling from a body shot throw by Luis Collazo the last time we saw him and was close to going down.

Like Amir Khan who talks too much and fights too little, Thurman is quickly becoming annoying. His Zen routine has grown stale and so has his overblown ego. Humility can go a long way.
