Highly-ranked ALA Boy Robert ‘Cliff Smart’ Allanic makes his American debut today as he takes on undefeated Mexican Abner Mares in a 10-round duke out at the New Alhambra in Philadelphia, USA.
The event, promoted by Oscar De la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, will be aired by Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo, which is available only in the US and Mexico.
Allanic and Filipino trainer Edito ‘Ala’ Villamor arrived at the Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday, 8:30PM, and were immediately whisked away by a waiting staff of the Golden Boy Promotions, who brought them to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
The following day, Allanic run on the treadmill for thirty minutes, before he was accompanied to the clinic of Dr. Gluckman in San Pedro, California for the medical requirements.
After taking part in the medicals, the duo then took a Southwest Airlines flight to Philadephia, which safely arrived at 10:30PM. Allanic and Villamor were then brought to the Hampton Hotel.
Mares (10-0, 6 KO’s) who represented Mexico in the 2004 Athens Olympics, hails from California by way of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Allanic (15-2, 7 KO’s), trained at the famed ALA Gym even before the notice to fight Mares was received by his management team.
To prepare for Mares, Allanic sparred with Franklin Albia, Gerald Nietes, Weng Haya, and Gil Melligen.
“I know he is undefeated, but I am coming to shine. I hope to win against him so I can keep coming to the United States,” said Allanic in an interview at Saturday’s ‘Moment of Truth’ card.
