In Saturday?s huge and eagerly awaited pay-per-view, Mexican star Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) looked visibly bigger and stronger than Puerto Rico?s Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) as he went on to score a twelve round unanimous decision victory by wide scores Saturday night in Las Vegas. Cotto boxed well for the most part but it was clear Alvarez carried the heavier shots that caught the judges eyes in what looked like a closer fight than it ended up being on the cards. Cotto moved well but Alvarez came forward for most of the bout. While Cotto utalized a good jab, Canelo seemed to land the heavier shots when the two exchanged. A final stand in the twelvth round sealed the win for Canelo as he shook Cotto with a body shot late in the last stanza to punctuate the victory. Scores were read as 117-111, 118-110 and a head-scratching 119-109. With the victory Alvarez collected the WBC, Ring and Lineal middleweight title despite the bout being contested at a junior middleweight catch-weight and now looks poised for a possible showdown with rising 160-pound start Gennady ?GGG? Golovkin.
