ENOUGH is enough.
Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz is fed up with Marvin Sonsona?s antics that he vowed that the former world champion will never fight again.
?It is painful for me. He?s one of the Philippines? best talent. This is the last day that we will call him a boxer,? said Lewkowicz last Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino.
Lewkowicz has given Sonsona enough chances to turn around his troubled boxing career. Sonsona, however, wasted the opportunity and finally drew the last straw after intentionally missing his flight to Las Vegas for a training camp for an upcoming fight with Claudio Marrero next month.
?He is an insult to the sport and for every boxer that wakes up early in the morning and works hard in the gym. He?s not a good example for anyone in his country. He?s a disgrace,? said Lewkowicz.
Lewkowicz has frozen Sonsona?s contract and he won?t be able to fight under any promoter anywhere in the world.
Sonsona has been under the wing of Lewkowicz since the age of 16. He was like a son to the international promoter.
Though it pains Lewkowicz to do this because Sonsona was one of his favorite fighters, he believes that it should be done to teach him a lesson and make this an example to other fighters.
?I loved him like my own son. It was a privilege for him to have me as a father. I treat all my fighters with love. This is an example for the rest of the boys that if anyone does this, he will pay the price,? he said.
Lewkowicz brought Sonsona to the US to train, gave him a BMW, a three-room apartment to stay in and even paid for the operation to save Sonsona?s mother.
But Sonsona refused fights against Jhonny Gonzalez, Garry Russell Jr. and now Marrero.
After a fight against Jonathan Arellano in the US in June, Sonsona returned to Gen. Santos City without the permission of Lewkowicz. From then on, he never returned.
But all isn?t lost for Sonsona. Lewkowicz will give him yet another chance.
?If he wants to come back, he has to fight in the Philippines for P50,000 against a tough opponent. He has to fight in the Philippines twice and I won?t pay him more than P50,000. He has to train in Cebu under Sammy Gello-ani,? he said.
Lewkowicz believes that Sonsona won?t accept it.
?I believe this is the end of his career. He wasted it, he?s finished. I will not bring him to the US, I don?t trust him anymore. I know for a fact that he won?t fight for P50,000. I will sue anyone that will promote him.?
