Bautista, Gorres armed to the teeth

FILIPINO BEAKBUSTERS Rey ‘Boom Boom’ Bautista and Z Gorres enter their respective fights this Saturday armed with over 100 rounds of sparring, top trainer Ala Villamor revealed yesterday.

“They prepared really long and hard for this one,” said Villamor, who even accompanied Bautista and Gorres at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California, for one month in January before heading back to Cebu.

Bautista faces Colombian Feider Viloria in a 12round super-bantamweight showdown, while Gorres locks horns with the favored Mexican Fernando Montiel in another 12-rounder in the super-flyweight class at the Cebu City Sports Complex.

“Bautista and Gorres each sparred 70 rounds while we were at the Wild Card and added more than 30 rounds when we got back to the country,” said Villamor, who is the taskmaster at the wellequipped Antonio L. Aldeguer Boxing Club in Cebu.

Super-feather Jimrex Jaca will also have his hands full as he goes up against Indonesian Simson Butar-Butar in the other 12-round bout that will beamed by channel 2 in partnership with SGG Promotions, ALA Boxing and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.

“Everything is all set for this weekend’s slugfest,” said SGG top executive Sammy Gello-ani, who is also keenly awaiting the arrival of top US and Puerto Rican boxing officials within the next few days.

Representing GBP is its vice-president Eric Gomez as well as matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz.

Bautista’s Latin rival is expected to arrive in Cebu this afternoon as his flight originated from Baranquilla, Colombia.
