A somewhat bemused Bob Arum said Tuesday night that there is “zero truth” to rumors circulating around boxing that Manny Pacquiao will not fight April 14 in San Antonio.
Skeptics have been legion what with the continuing legal tug-of-war over Pacman between Arum’s Top Rank and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. It is fact that GBP lawyers have been sending legal letters to various parties advising them not to get themselves involved in a lawsuit,
I spoke to Arum, who is in Chester, West Virginia, for his “Versus” TV fight card Thursday night featuring likely future Pacman foe Humberto Soto. That same card just added, I kid you not, HIV-stricken heavyweight of yore, Tommy “The Duke” Morrison in a four-rounder.
“The San Antonio show is absolutely on,” Arm said. “We signed a contract with the venue and both Manny and Solis are signed. It’s all bullshit. We will put the tickets on sale Wednesday or Thursday and make a formal announcement.”
In a related matter, trainer Freddie Roach told me Tuesday that he expects Pacman to arrive at his Wild Card Gym in Hollywood on Saturday.
Over to you, nattering nabobs of negativity and your oh so rude rumormongers.
