Not that many people were clamoring for a rematch, but at least one influential person thinks there?ll be Mayweather-Pacquiao II.
Never mind that the May ?Fight of the Century? between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao was a dud for pay-for-view purchasers, but set PPV and gate records. And never mind that Mayweather and his camp insist he is retired.
?If Manny fights a good fighter [next], looks good, has no shoulder injury, I think Floyd Mayweather and him will go one more time,? veteran trainer Freddie Roach said (via the Los Angeles Times? Lance Pugmire). ?Too much money. ? They?re not going to let that go, I feel.?
Last time out, Mayweather (49-0-0, with 26 knockouts) pocketed a reported $220 million and Pacquiao (57-6-2, 38 KOs) made $150 million. A rematch might not bring in that much, but it?d be hard to pass up anything in the neighborhood. Pacquiao reportedly fought in May with a shoulder injury that was surgically repaired later.
Pacquiao has not yet announced his next opponent, but Amir Khan, Terence Crawford and Danny Garcia are being mentioned as possible opponents.
