Sugar Ray Leonard has informed WBN that he was disappointed in the performance of Manny Pacquiao when the Filipino lost out to Floyd Mayweather Jr last May.
Pacquiao, 36, has since nursed a shoulder injury following a spring decision defeat to the current pound for pound king in a contest that smashed all pay-per-view records and earned both fighters a nine-figure check.
Upon witnessing what was expected to be the encounter of a generation, multi-weight former world champion Leonard says Pacquiao did look his old self when trading punches with Mayweather for the duration of the Las Vegas bout.
?I was expecting more from the Mayweather v Pacquiao fight,” Leonard exclusively told World Boxing News.
“Pacquiao wasn?t throwing his shots with his usual intent and he obviously wasn?t the fighter he was when he was at the top of his game.
?He used to be all aggression and dominate fighters by coming forward, but we didn?t see that against Floyd Mayweather.?
Pacquiao was linked to a fight with Amir Khan until the Briton stated that he would be pulling out of negotiations this week, although Leonard is hopeful that the pair can reach an agreement.
?If Pacquiao fights Amir Khan then that will be a great fight for the fans and very interesting to watch,? said the all-time great.
Should Pacquiao decide to fully move on from Khan, Terence Crawford would then be the frontrunner to oppose the ‘Pacman’ in April or March of next year.
Talk of a possible rematch between Pacquiao and Mayweather has been completely dismissed by Top Rank boss Bob Arum despite some rumours to the contrary.
