The father of Negrense World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes is positive that his son will win in the ?Pinoy Pride 33? fight at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California, Sunday.
Josue Nietes told the DAILY STAR yesterday that he is confident about the ability of his son Donnie, 33, a native of Murcia town, Negros Occidental.
However, Josue said, ?Donnie should not give too much confidence but focus on the fight.? He added that he has been praying for his son to be able to defend his title.
Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, meanwhile, said that he is happy that the game will be played in America as it will be a good promotion for Donnie to be recognized in the international world of boxing.
?What Donnie has done in how many years in boxing (is that) no Mexican won against him. It is high time for him to go to a higher level of fight in America,? Montelibano said.
Donnie Nietes, who will fight for the first time in the United States, will defend his title for the 8th time against Mexican champion Juan ?Pinky? Alejo.
The WBO light flyweight champion title was won by Donne Nietes against Mexican boxer Ramon Garcia Hirales, in Bacolod City on October 2011, via unanimous decision.*SGG
