GENNADY Golovkin has given a chilling account of prolonging a vicious beating for an opponent who angered him with trash talk.
Middleweight destroyer ?GGG? is building up to a blockbuster Madison Square Garden bout against fellow champion David Lemieux on Sunday and both fighters appeared on an HBO promo interview with their trainers and host Max Kellerman.
Golovkin was asked whether he tailored his fighting to how he personally felt about opponents, with November 2013 rival Curtis Stevens – who relentlessly trash-talked before their fight and even staged a mock burial with a casket marke ?GGG? – the case in point.
Kazakh hero GGG admitted he had prolonged Stevens? suffering after knocking him down in the second round. He brutalised the American fighter in the sixth round, forcing Stevens? mother to briefly leave her ringside seat, then smashed him all over the ring in the eighth.
Stevens? corner threw in the towel after the eighth round. Golovkin landed 293 punches (finding the mark on 49 per cent of his power punches) to Stevens? 97 in the fight.
