CALIFORNIA – Filipino boxers Donnie Nietes, Jason and Albert Pagara and Mark Magsayo recently took a rare break away from their grueling training to promote their upcoming bouts.
Their fans in Carson and Cerritos, California gave them the celebrity treatment, proving that they are indeed the new breed of Filipino boxing heroes.
The fighters are unanimous in their choice of their favorite onscreen heroes: Sylvestre Stallone, A.K.A. Rocky Balboa.
If given the chance to pick their choice of Filipino actors to play them if their lives are turned into movies, the fighters made some surprising choices.
Nietes wants comedian-actor and host Vhong Navarro to portray him in a movie.
“Idol ko siya,” Nietes said.
Jason Pagara has a more romantic choice.
“Syempre si Piolo [Pascual] kasi romantic movie,” he said. As for his leading lady, he picked Angel Locsin.
Magsayo, meanwhile, wants a dramatic actor to play him. He also has already thought of a title for his life story: ”Magnifico Story”.
“Si Gerald Anderson, magaling na actor,” he said.
Prince Albert Pagara sang a different tune when it came to his choice of the actor who can play him.
“Si Martin Nievera kasi mahilig din akong kumanta. Ang leading lady ko si Anne Curtis,” he said.
“Philippines vs. The World” will be held on Oct. 17 at the Stubhub Center.
