In a recent interview conducted by BoxingScene scribe Brent Matteo Alderson with Floyd Mayweather, Jr., the pound-for-pound debate was brought up over which fighter should be recognized as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport – Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather unloaded a few verbal jabs in Pacquiao’s direction.
“You can’t tell me nothing about Pacquiao. Pacquiao knocked a guy down three times in the first round and got a draw [Juan Manuel Marquez], so he really lost that fight. And then he got his ass whooped by [Erik] Morales,” Mayweather told Alderson.
The question was then posed over what would happen if Mayweather was still fighting as a lightweight and met Pacquiao in the ring. As most would expect, Mayweather said the fight would not even be contest. Although he did credit Pacquiao as being a good fighter that gets the job done, he also noted that they are not on the same level.
“Of course everybody knows I’ll box circles around Pacquiao. Pacquiao is a good fighter. He goes in there and do what he gotta do. These fighters are not even on my level. That’s why when I come to the fights they scream my name, Pretty Boy, because they know I’m the top dog,” Mayweather said.
