DAGUPAN CITY — Opposition senatorial candidate and House Minority Floor Leader Francis “Chiz” Escudero said the other day that the intention of Manny Pacquiao to enter politics is not good for the efforts to unite the people.
During his visit here last Wednesday, Escudero said that he is not happy about Pacquiao’s decision to run for Congress in South Cotabato in the May polls, and that he pities him because he is being used by the administration.
“Karapatan din niya na tumakbo at manilbihan tulad din natin, pero sa kaniyang paglahok sa politika magiging daan ito para sa pagkakahatihati,”Escudero said .
“Si Manny Pacquaio ay isang tao na simbolo ng pagkakaisa ng ating bansa, mapa babae, lalaki, makakaliwa, makakanan , opposisition at administarsyon, at kapag napabagsak nito ang kalaban, tayong lahat naghihiyawan, nagpapalakpakan,” the Bicol congressman said.
Escudero said he foresees that Pacquao’s involvement in politics would bring disunity to the country.
He appealed to the administration not to use Pacquaio because this will cause disunity among people.
“Kung tayo ay nagkakaisa sa kaniyang mga laban, papaano na ngayon na kapwa nating Pilipino ang mahahati, hindi ba magdudulot ito ng kaguluhan?”he asked.
He admitted that the administration is more powerful than the opposition when it comes to resources.
“Wala kaming kandidato sa pagkakongresista sa Pangasinan at wala kaming kinukumbensi pero lahat puwede silang lumahok sa amin, pero wala kaming maipapangakong pondo,” he said. (Liezle Basa I?igo)
