Andre Berto blasts Mayweather for anemic PPV buys

“According to multiple industry sources, the Mayweather-Berto Showtime PPV card was a box-office bomb, selling 550,000 subscriptions, at best. It could have done as few as 400,000, one of the sources said,” ESPN’s Dan Rafael writes. Berto thinks the fans decided to trash the fight because of their frustration in watching the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout. “It?s definitely Floyd’s fault, He left a sour taste in everybody?s mouth because of the Pacquiao bomb shell,” Berto told TMZ.com. “As you can see they weren?t bulls**ttin,” he added. While he received $4 million for the Mayweather fight, Berto said he tried his best not to disappoint those who paid to watch the fight but he failed because of his style. ?I knew if he had the chance he would run around and make it boring, but I tried my best to not let that happen and disappoint the people. They deserve excitement,? said Berto, who suffered his fourth loss in his pro career. Still, Mayweather did everything to promote the fight but fans did not find Berto a worthy opponent, having gone 3-3 on his last six fights. Meanwhile Mayweather has reportedly been stripped of his title as the Pound-for-Pound king by The Ring Magazine on account of his announcement that he will retire after his Sept. 12 fight against Berto.
