In a recent article by Lance Pugmire, published in the L.A. Times, Floyd Mayweather Sr. spoke on how he is not impressed with Oscar De La Hoya’s hiring of Freddie Roach to replace him as a trainer for the upcoming May 5th fight against his estranged son, Floyd Mayweather Jr. He also spoke on De La Hoya’s chances of defeating his son without his help.
Mayweather described Roach’s top pupil, Manny Pacquiao, as “a good puncher, not a fighter. He’s got no style, no defense, nothing.”
In regards to his thoughts of De La Hoya winning the fight, mayweather Sr said: “I can’t say Oscar won’t win without me, but his chances are much slimmer.”
Mayweather in regards to Roach in De la Hoya’s corner, added: “Oscar needs me more than my son does. Freddie Roach is a joke blowing smoke with no hope. He’s not going to help Oscar at all.”
