“People’s Champion” Manny Pacquiao has decided to campaign for a congressional seat in South Cotabato province in the May election and not the mayorship of General Santos City as reported earlier, ABS-CBN News reported.
Pacquiao told ABS-CBN correspondent Alex Santos that he will run against incumbent Rep. Darlene Antonio Custodio, a member of the opposition coalition.
Pacquiao said he will run under the banner of the Liberal Party faction of Manila Mayor Lito Atienza.
The boxer is currently in Manila and will return to General Santos on Tuesday. Pacquiao said he might file his certificate of candidacy on March 29, two weeks before his scheduled fight in Texas.
Pacquiao said his planned candidacy would not affect the fight with Mexican boxer Jorge Solis. With reports from TV Patrol World and DZMM
