THE first time I saw the Pagara brothers fight, I knew at once they?d go places. With their ring savvy embellished with power shots from both fists, the duo?s voyage to the summit seems inevitable.
I can?t wait to see it materialize.
It was only a while back when I watched them fight in the flesh in Cebu?thanks mainly to the super generous father-and-son tandem of Tony and Mike Aldeguer for their invite; the pugs are under their ALA stable.
I had forgotten their foes that night I first saw them slug it out at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel. But what remained etched in my mind was their devastating power that evening before a jam-packed arena. Almost, once a shot is landed by either fighter, it jarred the opponent no end. If memory serves, both their opponents were knocked out that night.
In both fights, it felt like I was watching a Manny Paquiao fighting 10 years or so ago; everything he threw back then had the power of dynamite that can easily send the woeful recipient to dreamland.
On Sunday, I watched on TV the Pagara brothers? fights in Dubai.
Purposely, I skipped the papers that day, avoiding, as usual, to read the fight results in Dubai the day before.
When cycling legend Jess Garcia called up that Sunday morning, I had to cut him off.
?Pareng Al, how are you?? came Jess?s call from his base in Mangaldan, Pangasinan.
?Sorry, but I will call you later,? I said.
I hung up.
I was afraid he?d break the news about the ?Duel in Dubai.?
I hate watching a fight whose result I know already. I just abhor watching replays. What?s the use, anyways?
Needless to say, I enjoyed watching both fights because I still didn?t know their outcome.

Ramiro Alcaraz, before Albert Pagara stopped Jesus Rios with an immediate barrage of punches for a first-round TKO victory.
Alcaraz appeared foxy like practically all southpaws. But he would soon fall prey to Jayson?s own wily tactics.
Albert made it all too easy, using a rain of solid punches to floor Rios twice in the first round for the quick win.
The duo are to fight again in October, this time in the US.
Truly, they are ripe for the big time. And the US should be it.
