Moments ago at the Don Haskins Convention Center in El Paso, Texas, former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. got back to his winning ways, defeating contender Marcos Reyes via unanimous decision after 10 rounds of action. The much bigger Chavez Jr. started off slow, circling the ring as he appeared to be looking to land one big shot. By the second round, however, Chavez Jr. began letting his hands go and it didn’t take long for him to land some heavy leather. Although Reyes was game and willing to exchange, it was clear that the size difference was already starting to have an impact.
Round after round, Reyes would start off landing a series of punches, but Chavez Jr. was willing to eat them all to land his heavier shots. There was relatively no skill on display from Chavez Jr., who seemed content to just walk through the punches of Reyes to unload his own power punches. The size of Chavez Jr. was simply allowing him to take whatever Reyes threw his way. A point deduction for Reyes in round 9 would essentially seal the deal for Chavez Jr. In the end, the judges scored the bout 97-92, 98-91, and 96-93, all in favor of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
