Marquez likely to retire due to knee injury

Former four-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (57-6-1, 40 KO?s) wants nothing more than a world welterweight title, a title that he has been pursuing for the past four years.

Marquez turns 42 in August, but the injury to his right knee could be the nail in the coffin to his dreams.

If Marquez decides to return to the ring, which appears unlikely now, IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook would fancy a fight in the UK while former lightweight titlist Brandon Rios, is also interested in a fight with the popular Mexican fighter.

If he wants to retire with a bang, he could always choose the remunerative path, a fifth and final fight against Manny Pacquiao, unless if they decide to make a sequel to Grudge Match at some point down the road.

However, Marquez left the boxing world and fans with a grim outlook.

?The first and most important thing is my physical state, my health. Right now, I?m training. I feel good, but then suddenly the knee begins to hurt, and that demoralizes me,? said Marquez. ?You can not operate on [the knee], it is caused by wear and tear and years of training. I do exercises to strengthen the muscles and take some supplements to rehabilitate my knee.?
