Floyd Mayweather Sr wants a fee of $2 million dollars to train Oscar De La Hoya for his upcoming fight against his son, Mayweather Jr. According to many published reports, Mayweather states that he won’t train Oscar De La Hoya in his upcoming fight for less than $2 million.
The fight is set for May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden. All indications point that the bout will be the highest-grossing non-heavyweight paper-per-view to date. Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Mayweather Sr said: “If they want me to work against my son, then they’re going to have to pay me.” Mayweather Sr. added: “My son and I, no matter what’s gone down between us, he’s still my blood. Hey, I’d work for Oscar if the deal is right, because that’s my job and boxing is just a sport.
It may just be a job to Mayweather Sr, but he explained why he wants a high fee, stating: “But if you want me to tell you how to beat my son — and I’m the only one who can tell Oscar how to do that — then you need to pay me.”
Mayweather Sr. said he was offered a guaranteed $500,000 for the fight, plus a bonus of $500,000 if De La Hoya defeats his son. However this is not sufficient for Floyd Sr. “Let him take his million and give it to someone else,” Mayweather Sr. said of De La Hoya’s initial offer. “It’s not like he doesn’t have the money to pay me. And this isn’t just any fight. And that isn’t just any fighter. That’s my son in there. Good, bad or indifferent, that’s my son.”
Mayweather Sr. think De La Hoya will give his son much of a challenge without his help.
“All he has to do is stay away from the left hook and it’s over,” Mayweather Sr. said in regards to what his son will need to do to win. “But with me, I’ll show Oscar how to land that left
