It appears that Floyd Mayweather, Sr. could very well be on the sidelines when Oscar de La Hoya challenges his son, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
In a recent interview with UK’s BBC Sport, Floyd Sr. told the media outlet that he was not going to back down from his demand of $2 million dollars to train De La Hoya to beat his son. De La Hoya is also standing his ground on his November offer to Floyd Sr., which was $500,000 dollars, with an additional $500,000 if he wins.
Floyd Sr. said De La Hoya’s final offer was “unacceptable.” He further stated that unless there is $2 million dollars on the table, he will not be involved in the fight.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has long said that the $2 million dollar demand was not going to be met, and Floyd Sr. was probably looking for a way out of the fight by sticking to such a high demand.
