FORMER amateur boxing standout Junriel Jimenez, who won numerous gold medals for Cebu in national tournaments, will have his second pro bout on July 18 at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Sawang Calero.
The event is a collaboration between Sawang Calero chief Ariel Yburan and the Cebu City Sports Commission through Commissioner Lorenzo ?Chao? Sy.
The match against Dodie Igot was originally slated this Sunday but was postponed because Jimenez sprained his right ankle while on his morning run.
?We have to reschedule the bout to July 18. Junriel sprained his ankle while doing the morning run and it needs one week to heal according to the doctor. So I had to push it back,? Sy told Sun.Star Cebu.
Jimenez debuted last April 18 in Medellin where he dominated the relatively more experienced Clyde Azarcon in their four-round match. The former Team Cebu City Boxing star scored a lopsided 40-34 win after scoring a knockdown in the first round and dominated the rest of the fight despite the hit- and-run tactics of the opponent.
The main event will feature Edward Penero against JR Salvador in an eight-round match in the 112-pound division, while Tom Jones Mangubat will take on Luis Espina for four rounds also in the 112-pound category.
