HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – While working his promotional magic at the Marco Antonio Barrera v. Juan Manuel Marquez press conference at the House of Blues in Hollywood, California, Oscar De La Hoya took the time to speak with Boxing Confidential on a few situations of interest to boxing aficionados.
The legal battle between Golden Boy Promotions and Top Ranks has been documented, at length, but win or lose in court, De La Hoya was very clear in his desire to make the bout for his featherweight standout Marco Antonio Barrera.
“We will let the courts decide the legal mess regarding Pacquiao,” said De La Hoya, “But if Marco wants that fight before he retires this year, I will work at it. I am here for the fighters, to work for them and what they want.”
Of course, Barrera needs to first get past Marquez.

“I am still deciding, look for an answer in the next few days,” said the Golden Boy.
De La Hoya, who has more riches than any of us commoners could imagine, says money is not at the center of this conflict. In recent reports, Floyd Mayweather Sr., De La Hoya’s current trainer of record, publicly stated he wanted two million dollars to train De La Hoya against his own son.
“I do not want to get in between a family, I am not that type of person. Money is not the issue here, no matter who trains me, I am coming to win against Mayweather. Jr.”
