Floyd Mayweather has revealed that he will earn $200 million from his superfight with Filipino Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night here at the MGM Grand – and that $50 million will go to each of his four children. It is the legacy of his children’s children that matters to him now, not his own legacy in boxing.
Mayweather also conceded that his father “was right” that he should be considering ending his career and not risk being hurt in the ring.
Floyd Mayweather Snr had told The Telegraph on Monday: “I hope that Floyd gets out the game at the right time. This is a gambler?s game and I don?t think Floyd should be gambling too much.

“Once you reach that pedigree and make that kind of money, you don?t have to fight no more. I hope he walks away after this fight. Whenever you get in that ring, anything can happen. It looks easy but it ain?t as easy as it looks. He makes it look easy.?
Mayweather Jnr, unbeaten in 47 fights to date, added, however, that he will complete the two fights on his Showtime contract, which will take him to 49-0, should he win his fight on Saturday, and then in September.
“I am a man of my word and I will honour my contract with Showtime,” explained Mayweather.
“I have to thank my team – we made 11 million dollars in the last two days,” he added.
Asked if he treasured the 0 on his 47-0 record, Mayweather conceded that “the money is more important than the undefeated record”.
Mayweather’s career earnings could reach $ 700 million after his September contest.
“People have criticized me for being a defensive fighter, but last night when I was at home sitting with my mother and my daughter, I thought to myself ‘I’m proud of myself.’ To be in a sport for 19 years, the main thing is I’m going to get out of the sport and still have a sharp mind.
“I don’t think one fight defines my career. All 47 fights played a major key. The bar is always set high for Floyd Mayweather. I think if we turn the table and if I had gotten knocked out by Marquez this fight would have never happened.
“I’m glad I was flashy and outspoken when I was younger. But I’m close to the big 4-0. I don’t have to bash anyone. I know what I can do.
“Today I was thinking about how thankful I am for my fans. I’m so thankful for my fans. Every day when I’m training at the gym, there’s 200 or 300 fans waiting out there for me.
“Saturday, before and after the fight, I will still be The Best Ever. One fight doesn’t define my career. The great thing about my career is that I’m a smart businessman. A 19-year career with no punishment on the body, that’s what we should talk about.”
Mayweather insisted that Rocky Marciano’s career record 49-0, making him the only world champion in history to win all of his fights, was not a huge motivating force moving forward. But with a new arena being built next year by the MGM Grand, the Las Vegas-based fighter could consider capping his career by christening the new venue with a fiftieth fight.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, who held court in the Mandalay Bay hotel, explained that this fight is about his legacy and place in the sport.
He explained: “This is one of the most important fights for my boxing legacy. I want to make this fight a good result for my legacy. I want to win, that is my goal.
“I believe this is the right time for us to be fighting. More people are informed for this fight than ever before. People who aren’t even boxing fans are interested in this fight.
