LOS ANGELES ? Manny Pacquiao is moving around town oozing with confidence ahead of his May 2 encounter with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
?I?m not worried,? said Pacquiao Sunday evening.
The greatest Filipino boxer ever remained a 2-1 underdog against the undefeated American. Yet, he thinks that numbers wont? matter when the fight comes.
Pacquiao said he prefers to be the underdog in this fight because it puts more pressure on Mayweather?s rolling shoulders.
?I like it more. I love being the underdog,? he said.
The last time he carried the underdog tag to a Las Vegas fight was seven years ago when he faced Oscar dela Hoya in a fight people thought he couldn?t win. Sportshub ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1
But he turned things around inside the ring, and as HBO ring analyst Larry Merchant described it, Pacquiao ?reconfigured Dela Hoya?s beautiful face.?
Pacquiao is cool, calm and collected two weeks to the fight.
He took a break from training Sunday and spent the whole day with his family and friends, herding them from one place to another.
On Monday, he?s back in the training.
Based on his training schedule, he?s scheduled to go on a trek at Griffith Park all the way up to the iconic Hollywood sign.
Then in the afternoon, he will be at the Wild Card Gym to work on his craft inside the ring with chief trainer Freddie Roach.
The odds point to a win by Mayweather, undefeated in 47 professional fights.
But among his closest friends, Pacquiao had shared thoughts of winning this one on May 2 at the MGM Grand.
A seasoned scribe dared Pacquiao to go for the kill.
?Relax,? he said.
?Bakit ba kayo ang tense (Why are you tense?)? Pacquiao added.
He?s got it all figured out.
