Gennady Golovkin, boxing’s top middleweight and the consensus hardest puncher in the sport, pound for pound, would love a crack at Floyd Mayweather, the recognized top fighter and draw in boxing.
The perceived most destructive fighter in the world told BoxingScene:
“Everybody wanted the fight [with him and Pacquiao] for the last five years. I think Floyd?s too smart. This is Floyd?s style; he doesn?t take too many shots. Floyd?s too smart, he?s a great boxer, he?s number one in the world.”
“Pacquiao, I think he loses control of the fight. He could not do anything against Floyd.Pacquiao is very good, but it was a very smart fight for Floyd.”
“Of course [I would like to face him at 154], it is my dream fight. Obviously, Floyd, he is a great champion, and a little bit different style.” “I like real fight, like close fight. I want show, big show; big drama show!”
Mayweather vs Golovkin…. That would be very interesting.
What makes Gennady Golovkin so special is he possesses awesome technical skills in addition to bloodcurdling power. He’s also bigger than Floyd so it would be interesting to see how this version of ‘Money May’ would cope with Golovkin’s reach and strength. Moreover, how would GGG deal with Floyd’s speed, sense of range and freakish technical skills?
And how strong would Golovkin be at 154 lbs?
Mayweather vs Golovkin won’t happen because the risk for Floyd far exceeds the rewards but the match-up, at 154 lbs, would be intriguing to say the least.
