Pacquiao-M?weather superfight: No pain, no gain

MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. is going through pain just as much or as little as Manny Pacquiao does in their buildup for the biggest fight of all.

Mayweather, according to one of the very few who enjoy rare access to his camp, is dealing with a ?split lip and injured hands.?

This close to the May 2 showdown.

David Mayo, who has covered Mayweather?s career from the start, wrote a column for MLive.com to confirm it all.

?I know because I saw them,? he said.

?Mayweather indeed has been coping with hand injuries. He has some skin marks on his knuckles. They require antiseptic,? added Mayo. Sportshub ( Article MRec ), pagematch: 1, sectionmatch: 1

It?s not the first time that Mayweather has dealt with injuries in training. There?s a history to it, Mayo wrote.

The same goes for Pacquiao, who had to address very recent reports that he?s experiencing leg cramps during training.

He said it goes with training.

Roach, in one interview, said Pacquiao is also dealing with blisters on his feet ? blisters the size of an Oreo.

Pacquiao has cut down on those long, uphill runs at Griffith Park to focus more on the agility rather than stamina.

He?s also dealing with cramps ? the expensive way.

Yahoo! Sports wrote a couple of weeks ago that Pacquiao is applying a special cream on his legs. It costs $1,800 a bottle.

?I?ve got the doctors working on it. There are some Filipino guys here who are massaging it for him. The cream cost $1,800 for a single bottle. I wasn?t too happy about that,? Freddie Roach said.

Pacquiao skipped sparring last Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The big fight is up ahead. Perhaps it?s time to give those tired or aching muscles a break.

These are no high school athletes. One is 38 and the other is 36.
