TV commercial to earn Roach, Morales P2 M each

MEXICAN FIGHTER Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao’s American trainer Freddie Roach are being paid “a substantial amount” for being part in a soon-to-be-released beer commercial of San Miguel Corporation.

That commercial will be starred, of course, by Pacquiao, a well-placed source revealed yesterday.

The two will pocket a little over P2 million each.

The shooting of what could be a blockbuster commercial advertisement started Thursday in Forbes Park in Makati, and was reported to have been completed yesterday.

It could not be determined if Pacquiao is going to be paid separately since he has already a P100-million sponsorship and advertising pact with San Miguel that was forged early last year following his win over Morales in their second encounter,

The same source, however, said the one that is being shot is not part of that contract.

Morales, wife Andrea and long-time friend Jorge Quezada arrived in Manila last Jan. 6 and were billeted at The Diamond Hotel.

Roach followed on Tuesday evening on board Northwest Airlines like the Morales’ and Quezada. They are scheduled to spend two nights in the high-end resort of Amanpulo in Palawan before returning to the US on Tuesday morning.

Roach is expected to remain in the country until the conclusion of a proposed three-day boxing clinic in Quezon City.

The money they are getting for the commercial pales in comparison with what the trio earned from their official roles inside the ring.

Pacquiao pocketed $ 3 million (exclusive of taxes) when he destroyed Morales in less than three rounds last Nov. 18 in Las Vegas, while Morales also earned at least $ 2 million in that bout that also scored a knockout in ticket sales and in pay-per-view sales as well.

Roach, one of boxing’s most sought-after cornermen, also gets a 10 percent cut on Pacquiao’s purse as chief trainer.

It is being anticipated that the commercial is going to be a smash hit among viewers just like the previous commercials of the late movie king Fernando Poe, Jr.
