CALIFORNIA ? Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, known for bringing peace to war-torn Philippine regions on fight night, was all smiles after his efforts to broadcast his May 2nd mega fight on the Philippines’ three major networks was announced.
“Ginawa nila para pabor sa atin mga Pilipino. Nagpapasalamat ako sa panginoon, nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng mga big boss ng mga station. Nakipag-coordinate at inaalis ang bias para magkaisa para sa bayan ng Pilipino,” Pacquiao said.
After playing media man on Wednesday night to American TV and satellite providers, he skipped his Thursday morning workout.
“He had too much media stuff. He didn’t eat, they pushed him hard with that media. It was late by the time he got to bed. Came late, ate late and just not enough rest time in between, plus he’s been jogging pretty good this week so it doesn’t really matter,” said his strength and conditioning coach, Justin Fortune.
With a restful morning, Pacquiao was paid a visit by UFC contender Andrei Arlovsky as he wrapped up 8 rounds of sparring. However, the team had to strike down a report on Pacquiao’s health.
According to reports, the fighting congressman is using $1800 cream to help heal cramps.
“We did have some shin splints when we were running hills and it was a little bit of a problem for a short amount of time and he had an inflammatory cream to take the pain away, it doesn’t cost that much money but it’s not cheap either,” said head trainer Freddie Roach.
Fortune added, “There’s no cramps. He was stiff when he first started training. He was dehydrated that’s why he cramped up for a couple days. This guy shakes his legs and everyone panics. Like oh my God he has leg cramps, come on man. $1800 cream? Really? Have you ever heard of an $1800 cream?”
Meanwhile, Pacquiao’s family got to enjoy the US spring break style. Wife Jinkee, and their five children, spent Wednesday at the happiest place on earth, Disneyland.
With the Pacman’s Philippine television rights straightened out and legs working, he’s back to full speed ahead as he wraps up his 4th week of training camp.
