Op-Ed: Pacquiao tells why he is confident of winning against Mayweather

While fans are worried about Manny Pacquiao’s chances of winning against Floyd Mayweather in their scheduled fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2, the fighting congressman from the Philippines is confident of beating Mayweather.

In the press conference leading up to the May 2 fight, Pacquiao cited reasons why he is confident of winning against the unbeaten American boxing champion. While Pacquiao has not sparred with Mayweather to substantiate his claim that he is the better fighter, he cited some reasons why he will come up victorious on May 2. First, he believes God will be on his side and guide him to victory, saying: “The Lord my God that I am serving will deliver him into my hands,” Aside from being a known positive thinker, Pacquiao is spiritually charged and he believes this mindset will carry him to victory. He is also oozing with confidence saying that he is even more worried when he fought Oscar de la Hoya, Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto, three fighters who are known power punchers. “I’m more worried about De La Hoya and Cotto than my fight with Floyd,” he said Pacquiao also cited his superior footwork and hand speed which Mayweather will find difficult to match and prove overwhelming for the pound-for-pound king. Then he said that beating Mayweather will do wonders for boxing which is considered by some analysts as one of the dying ports because of disunity among boxing stakeholders. “Beating Floyd is good for boxing. When athletes have great success, their success goes to their head. That is bad for boxing,” said Pacquiao, who has given boxing a “shot in the arm” by trying to be a good role model for the young and aspiring boxers. Pacquiao is facing a fighter who is unbeaten in 47 pro fights and he knows how difficult it will be for him to prove that he is better than Mayweather. But his confidence level is so high that he is already savoring the sweet smell of success come fight night and such a state of mind will carry him to victory with God’s help as he has repeatedly said when asked about his chances of winning.
