CELEBRATED trainer Freddie Roach said he may return to Manila with legendary Mexican Erik “El Terrible” Morales in the near future.
In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Standard Today, Roach said there were plans for shooting a San Miguel Beer commercial with Morales, Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and himself.
Roach said there has been talk about the plan, but added “there’s nothing definite as yet.”
The vice president for corporate affairs of San Miguel Corp. Mon Santiago said he was trying to confirm reports about what could well be a blockbuster commercial for San Miguel’s flagship product, but that since it was New Year’s Day, he couldn’t contact anybody in the marketing department to find out.
Pacquiao has been a big endorser of San Miguel Beer and its various top products, alongside celebrity game show host and superstar Kris Aquino and pool legend Efren “Bata” Reyes following the signing of a megabuck deal with San Miguel’s chief executive and president Ramon Ang.
There were also reports prior to the Grand Finale between Pacquiao and Morales that the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN had floated the idea of doing a telenovela with Morales in a starring role.
Roach didn’t wish to comment on the ongoing charges and counter-charges, claims and counter-claims between Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank and the various comments going back and forth between manager Shelly Finkel and himself and Bob Arum and Michael Koncz, who has been roundly condemned but continues to remain by the side of Pacquiao.
Roach indicated it was a mess and he didn’t know what was going on.
He also took time out to wish all his fans in the Philippines a very happy and prosperous New Year and one that would be great for Filipino boxers.
Although Pacquiao beat Morales for a second time via a smashing third-round stoppage last November to end their trilogy with a bang, both fighters respect each other off the ring.
Morales won the first bout of their trilogy with a unanimous decision victory before Pacquiao bounced back mightily in their second fight with a 10th-round annihilation of the Mexican legend.
