LOS ANGELES ? Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao kicked off Day 3 of his training camp with a jog and a workout at the scenic Griffith Park, and ended it with a two-hour workout at the Wild Card Gym.
Pacquiao continues to work with assistant coach Buboy Fernandez and strength and conditioning coach Justine Fortune, as his chief trainer, Freddie Roach, celebrated his birthday across the Pacific.
Roach turned 55 on Thursday, but could not celebrate with Team Pacquiao as he is currently in China where he is looking to lead Zou Shiming to a world title this weekend.
“Happy birthday to Freddie. I wish him all the best and more birthdays to come,” said Pacquiao.
“Happy birthday coach, and more meaningful birthdays to come and good health,” said Fernandez.
With Roach in Macau, Fernandez has been overseeing the workouts.
“I’m doing my job lang in the meantime that Freddie’s not here,” Fernandez explained. “Just like the captain, we are co-pilot. I just keep the training, and when the captain arrives, he’ll be surprised that the champ is in condition.”
Both the Wild Card and Fortune’s gym have been off limits to cameras ? except one crew.
Ryan Moore, the director of the “Manny” documentary, is also directing the music video for the boxer’s entrance song for his May 2 bout against Floyd Mayweather.
