BAUTISTA WILL KEEP GOING, GOING AND GOING

We suffered the agony of waiting for the delayed telecast of the Bautista-Andrade fight last Sunday morning as Solar Sports intentionally aired the undercard bout only after the main event between Winky Wright and Ike Quartey. At past noontime, the fight was finally shown and we struggle not to wink an eye even if we already knew of the outcome hours before it was aired.

Apparently, the fourth round bell was merely rung to formally mark the 20th straight victory of the Candijay, Bohol native who kept on shouting his name as an adopted son of Tagbilaran City.

* * * * * * * Boom Boom’s victory at the St. Peter Times Forum in Tampa, Florida last Sunday finally paved the way for his formal entry to the international boxing world with Oscar dela Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions as his guardian angel tying up with the ALA Boxing Gym through the conduit of Sammy Gelloani’s SSG Promotions.

With that victory, Bautista’s career is now going, going, going and will keep on going as long as he maintains that discipline, humility and power-packed punches like “boom, boom, boom!”

Which reminds us of the fate of our very own Czar Amonsot who tried to make amends with sportsman Tony Aldeguer after his recent ring debacle right in the very eyes of his fellow Tagbilaranons.

* * * * * * * Our sources revealed that Amonsot was given the blessings to continue training at the ALA gym in Taloto this city through the imprimatur of City Mayor Dan Neri Lim.

But Amonsot apparently could not display the much-needed discipline demanded from boxers of international caliber like Manny Pacquiao and Bautista. He still fall prey to the tempting alcoholic and pilsen-like tendencies.

It’s about time for Amonsot to make up his mind. Whether to shape up his boxing career once again or just resign to the stone-breaking chores in Bool is up to his own decision. It’s a matter of a deal or no deal.

* * * * * * * Of course, we also have another prospect in AJ “Bazooka” Banal of Corella, Bohol who is an adopted son of Tagbilaran like Bautista.

When AJ turns 18 this month, he would be ripe for an international exposure next to Mandaue’s pride, Z Gorres. Had Amonsot not fall into the quagmire of being a hothead, he could have been paraded now side by side with Bautista, Banal and Z Gorres.

Could you imagine that if Amonsot had won his last fight, he only needs one more fight before going up against, guess who – Marco Antonio Barrera. Even if he would lose against Barrera, he can always go home to Bool a millionaire. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
