I’ve been a boxing fan and involved in boxing for several years. I’ve covered fights ringside, and I’ve met and rubbed elbows with this sports biggest players. I’ve also lived almost 50 years now. I’ve traveled to over 20 countries, and have been in the majority of the 50 states. In my lifetime, travels, and years of life, I’ve never seen two camps try so hard NOT to make millions and millions of dollars.
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, two men, two fighters, two guys that have had opportunities that most humans never get. They’ve enjoyed the fruits of financial freedom, the luxury cars, the mansions, jewels, and unlimited travels. Both men have another opportunity. They can fight each other and give the fans what they want to see. In doing so, they can earn around 100 million dollars. This could happen if they signed a deal and put in a rematch clause. So, why in the world would this fight not happen?
Truth be told, there’s some guilt on both sides of the fence. Ego’s, transparency, greed, and pride. Mix all of that up in a bottle, and you have the ingredient that serves a big plate of no fight. It’s incredible to me that we have two people that are letting things get in the way of making this fight happen. Seriously folks, if it were me, I wouldn’t care who was representing me. If I were Floyd or Manny, I’d be on the phone with one or the other every day until a deal was reached. If my management or promoter was the issue, I would get a new manager or a new promoter. There’s entirely too much money to be made here. There’s no way in the world that I would let anyone come between me and that kind of money.
The window of opportunity has been closing on this fight, and it will soon be shut. Father Time won’t wait around forever. If these two men don’t get this fight done soon, it will be too late. What a travesty that would be. Both guys will regret it one day. Imagine looking back on life and knowing that you threw away around 50 million bucks. Pure insanity and ignorance at its finest.
This would be the biggest fight in boxing history. The PPV sales, the ticket sales, the merchandise, the TV shows leading up to the fight, the hype, the excitement, all would generate incredible revenue. The fans would get what they want, the fighters would be paid ridiculous amounts of money, and the sport would be put on the mainstream map again. After that, then we could look for a rematch, and do it all over again.
For this fight to NOT happen would be a travesty that words can’t even describe. Shame on both men if this fight doesn’t happen. Shame on them, and shame on the promoters and managers and anyone else that contributed to it’s failed fruition.
