UNDEFEATED Filipino Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista arrived early yesterday morning on a PAL flight from Los Angeles after his devastating fourth-round technical knockout win over Brazilian Giovanni Andrade last Sunday in Tampa, Florida.
Among those who met Bautista at the airport were his manager Antonio L. Aldeguer and Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Neri Lim.
After a television interview, Bautista proceeded to the Hyatt Hotel where he was treated to a welcome breakfast by Solar Sports executives and staff.
The young boxing sensation then flew to Cebu, where he was warmly received by peers and fans, before he joined the local media in a lunch press conference at the Cebu Grand Convention Center.
A grand welcome also awaits Bautista, the former World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific bantamweight champion from Candijay town in Bohol province, when he arrives in Tagbilaran City today on his way to a reunion with his family.
Bautista, unbeaten in 21 fights, said he would spend about one week with his family, before reporting back to the ALA Gym in Cebu to start yet another training camp for his possible February showdown with WBO super bantam champ Daniel Ponce de Leon.
