Michael Konz says Pacquiao camp willing to wait ‘as long as it takes’ to seal Mayweather fight

DEADLINES have been thrown out the window as negotiations for the ‘megafight’ between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. gained a major breakthrough following the two boxing superstars’ chance meeting during a Heat game in Miami.

Pacquiao had previously said he was giving the off-and-on negotiations with the Mayweather camp until the end of the month, but that deadline is no longer in force following the chat the two boxers had on the sidelines of the Heat-Bucks game – and a meeting held at the hotel where the Pacquiaos were staying.

Pacquiao?s business manager Michael Konz is also not inclined to set a new deadline in negotiations for the projected May 2 fight between boxing’s biggest draws, saying the Pacman camp will let the negotiations take its course. ?I don?t want to talk about it (deadline) anymore. If it happens, it happens; if it don?t happen, it don?t happen,? said Konz, who was with Pacquiao in Miami when reached by Spin.ph on Friday.

Asked until when are they willing to wait for Mayweather to make the next move, Koncz said: ?As long as it takes, we?re not gonna set (deadlines) or cast it in stone. We?ve established a good relationship with Floyd. I expect that something will be done sooner, I am not concerned with deadlines.? [See Pacquiao says it was ‘God’s will’ to bring him and Mayweather together in Heat game] Konz, however, expressed optimism that that long-awaited fight will finally be staged, banking on the ‘courage’ the unbeaten American fighter showed when he went to Pacquiao’s hotel room and the ‘sincerity’ he showed during the talks.

?Floyd is sincere, I think Floyd is sincere and honest at the back of his head that he wants to make this fight happen,? Koncz said. ?I can tell it?s a very positive move, and we commend Floyd for the courage to come over (to Manny?s hotel) and talk to us, so we?ll see what happens,? added Koncz, who approached Mayweather in his courtside seat during the Miami game before the two fighters came face to face at halftime.
