One week after Manny Pacquiao’s masterful conquest of Erik Morales, another Filipino boxer gave his fellow countrymen something to proud of.
Dondon “Supremo” Sultan of Labason, Zamboanga del Norte defeated Australian champion Eddie Delic by unanimous decision over 12 rounds to win the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) welterweight title on Saturday night at the Suntec International Convention Center in Singapore.
There was no doubt that the 28-year-old Sultan dominated the fight on the way to get the nod of the three judges.
The official scores were 117-113, 115-112, and 115-112 all for Sultan, who improved his record to 14-7-2 (7KOs). Delic fell to 11-7-2 (7KOs).
San fanfare, Sultan arrived back in Cebu yesterday together with his trainer Boy Dignos and Clarisse Catipay of SGG Sports Promotions. The Sultan-Delic showdown was the first “world title fight” to take place in the Lion City since 1989.
Supervising the bout was no less than WBF president Mick Croucher.
