In a battle of unbeaten super lightweights, Mike ?Yes Indeed? Reed, of Waldorf, MD, cruised to a relatively easy but well fought unanimous decision over Oscar Valenzuela, of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Reed displayed a nice mixture of punches, landing often to the body of Valenzuela. While Valenzuela proved to be plenty game, he was often outhustled throughout the fight. Reed remains undefeated going to 12-0, 6 KOs, while Valenzuela tastes defeat and drops to 8-1-1, 5 KOs.
Undefeated Oklahoma City, OK, welterweight prospect, Alex Saucedo, thrilled and wowed the crowd by landing booming overright hands on veteran Daniel Calzada. Saucedo landed power shot after power shot on the durable Calzada seeking an early stoppage. Calzada would in fact get dropped by a huge right hand to the liver in round two but definitely made good on his prefight quote of ?heart of a champion.? Saucedo continued to blister Calzada throughout the fight drawing plenty of cheers from the crowd. The action was halted when Calzada was bleeding profusely on the right eye. Despite the wear and tear, Calzada?s experience and toughness allowed him to finish all six rounds. Saucedo would go on to win a very impressive unanimous decision as remains undefeated at 16-0, 11 KOs. Calzada drops to 10-12-2, 2 KOs.
Former amateur star, John ?Fast Hanz? Franklin, of Kansas, City, Missiouri, won a close majority 6 round decision over Andre Wilson. Franklin was able to pot shot from the outside and slip out of harms way through most of the fight. Wilson was very determined and displayed a more popular straight ahead attack and earned a 57-57 score on one the judges scorecards. The decision was debated by some media and fight fans but fightnews scored the bout 4 round to 2. Franklin improves to 9-0 (4) while Wilson drops to 13-8?1 (11) but raises his stock in the process.
Undefeated Nebraska bantamweight Johnny ?Whit boi? Determan landed a crushing pin point straight left-right combination in round three to drop and stop overmatched journeyman Manuel Galaviz. Determan, of Omaha, NE, improves to 9-0, 8 KOs while Galaviz dropps to 7-15, 3 KOs. Determan is promoted by Hitz Promotions and will look to keep the momentum going in early 2015.
Coming into the ring with Team Crawford entourage in full effect, Bernard Davis, of Omaha, Nebraska, displayed great ring generalship and peppered the wild swinging Bryan Timmons, of St Joseph, Missouri, almost at will. Simmons was getting punished by Davis, who displayed his trademark, fast hands and sneaky quick combinations. Davis stepped up the pace even more in round two and blistered Simmons with numerous flurries to both the body and head. Referee Tom Anderson halted the match, after seeing Simmons take unanswered punch after punch. A bit early on the stoppage but regardless the end was near. Davis picks up his first tko at 2:05 into the 2nd round and improves to 3-0 (1). Timmons drops to 2-3 (2).
