A betting line for the long-awaited fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has been established in at least two hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada, indicating that the fight could happen as early as May next year.
According to RingTV, the betting line has been posted at Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand with Mayweather favored to win edging Pacquiao 3-1. Quoting a spokesman of MGM Grand, RingTV said “It is an unusual move for a fight that hasn?t been confirmed.” ?It?s not something that we would normally do if it?s just a projected fight,? said Scott Ghertner, a spokesman for the MGM Grand. ?If we do something like that the fight would have to take place in a certain amount of time.? Mayweather is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Marcos Maidana in a rematch at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada last Sept.13. Mayweather’s last two fights failed to hit a million mark in the pay-per-view buys, indicating that the unbeaten champ needs to face someone who can revive his dwindling PPV numbers. Pacquiao, who is scheduled to face Chris Algieri on November 22 at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort & Casino in Macau, China, is likewise struggling with his PPV numbers as he also failed to hit million mark. Pacquiao is recovering from his devastating loss to longtime foe Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico in 2012. He has won his last to comeback fights that include a unanimous decision wins over Brandon Rios and Timothy Bradley. There has been a wide clamor for the two elite fighters to face each other in the ring to give boxing fans the fight that they all wanted to see. Pacquiao has to win over Algieri in order to accelerate negotiations for the super fight. The Filipino star is favored to win over the unbeaten American from New York, who has a 20-0 career record.
