After all had been said and done, Manny Pacquiao may now be considered as the greatest Filipino boxer of all times surpassing the likeness of a Flash Elorde, Rocky Marciano or a Pancho Villa and other Filipino boxing greats ahead of him. It?s no surprising therefore for the two leading boxing promoters, Top Rank of Bob Arum and Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar dela Hoya to be locked up in power struggle to promote Pacquiao?s future fight with Marco Antonio Barrera.
But as correctly point out by our friend Hermie Rivera, an acknowledged boxing analyst, it is not farfetched if the two promoters will join forces to promote the Pacquaio-Barrera fight, all for the love of money, este, boxing.
* * * * * * * * There is no doubt that the Manny Pacquiao fever hit the country after that three-round knockout last Sunday. The country stood still as our pound-for-pound boxer wrote boxing history in his trilogy with Morales, himself a Mexican boxing icon.
Streets were deserted, malls were filled and cinemas showing the bout were on a standing room only.
But we do not agree to a streamer caught by the camera during the boxing bout using the Philippine flag with the words: ?Pacquiao for President.?
God porbid, err, forbid.
