This is the line of thinking of the team of experts that took Erik Morales under its weight reduction and physical conditioning program for almost two months in Los Angeles.
“We have done our job. We have never seen Morales in better shape than he is now,” said Swede exercise physiologist Joergen Persson of the Velocity Sports Performance in Los Angeles.
“It?s like if someone gives us a race car, a Ferrari, with 400 horsepower you want better suspension, we give you better suspension, we give you better handling.
You want more power? We give you 600 horses but we don?t drive the race for you.
“It?s up to the coach to take this stronger, faster and better performing machine and make the most out of it,” added Persson, who event went to check out Morales? training in the Otomi mountains.
Morales had no choice but to enroll at Velocity after experiencing difficulties making the super-featherweight limit in the Manny Pacquiao bout that he lost convincingly via tenth-round knockout early this year.
Velocity said Oscar dela Hoya also trained under them and went unbeaten and it was when he broke off ties with Velocity that he suffered the first defeat of his career at the hands of Felix Trinidad in Sept. 1999.
However, it could not be determined if a Ferrari that?s been ran over 100,000 miles could still get the feel of something that just came out of a showroom.
