JASON Canoy tries his luck again on international shores as he guns for a regional crown in Russia.
The 24-year-old Canoy locks horns with unbeaten Russian Nikolay Potapov in Yunost, Klimovsk for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Inter-Continental bantamweight belt on Nov. 8.
?We have been training really hard and we are well prepared for this fight. He has been sparring with Jason Redondo and Gerry Castroverde,? Omega Boxing Gym head coach Christopher ?Ping-Ping? Tepora told Sun.Star Cebu.
Record
Canoy once fought in Russia?s neighboring country Ukraine last year. He fought for the WBA Inter-Continental super flyweight belt, but lost to Oleksandr Hryschchuk by a technical decision after the fight was stopped due to a severe cut on Canoy.
Canoy also dropped his only other bout outside the country, also a technical decision defeat to former world champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai in 2011.
Tepora hopes this fight will have a different outcome.
?This will be a good fight. I think that Canoy has a chance because his opponent does not run,? said Tepora. ?Our target really is to knock him out.?
Canoy, who is making his bantamweight debut, has won four in a row since his loss to Hryschchuk, beating the likes of Giovanni Escaner, Jade Yagahon, Ronerex Dalut and Aroel Romasasa.
No loss
The 24-year-old Potapov has never tasted defeat in his career. However, he hasn?t been very busy with boxing and has fought only thrice in the past two years. His last fight was last April, in which he outclassed Mexican Martin Casillas by unanimous decision.
Canoy is 20-4-2 with 14 knockouts, while Potapov is 12-0 with six knockouts.
