Erik wants final fight in Tijuana

LOS ANGELES ? Vanquished Mexican fighter Erik Morales told the Spanish-language daily La Opinion that he plans to fight one last time in June or July 2007 before hanging up his gloves for good.

Morales suffered the most devastating setback of his storied career last Saturday in Las Vegas against Filipino hotshot Manny Pacquiao.

Morales, in a story that was published on Thanksgiving Day, said he would like to perform before the people of Tijuana for the last time then retire and concentrate on training aspiring boxers.

The loss was the third straight for Morales, who was stopped in the 10th round by Pacquiao last January also at the Thomas and Mack Center. Before that, he dropped a unanimous decision to Zahir Raheem in Los Angeles in September last year.

Morales said he would try to convince his US promotional outfit Top Rank to give him one more opportunity to showcase his stuff.

Moments after going down three times against Pacquiao, Top Rank big boss Bob Arum said he would rather see the 30-year-old Tijuana terror retire for good.
