FOLLOWING Floyd Mayweather?s victory in his rematch with Marcos Maidana, it seems like all the attention in the fistic world is now directed at Manny Pacquiao?s fight with Chris Algieri this Nov. Mayeather?able Court?nd the accused only has to come up with the remainnig 22.
But what about Nonito Donaire?
With all the excitement at the possibility that the long delayed mega-fight might finally happen (depending on Pacquaio?s performance), it seems like fans have overlooked another Pinoy boxing icon whose fight with Nicholas Walters actually happens ahead, on Oct. 18, 2014.
Who is Nicholas Walters, you ask?
PUNCHER. His record is nothing to scoff at. He is undefeated in 24 fights with 20 of those coming via the short route.
He is a native of Jamaica who turned pro in 2008. He came under the fistic radar when he challenged Daulis Prescott for the vacant WBA featherweight title in 2008 and stopped him in 7 rounds.
This guy is a tremendous puncher and is currently on a four fight kayo streak.
In his last bout, he stopped the formidable Vic Darchinyan in 5 rounds, knocking him down once in round two and twice in the final round.
Is Nonito in any danger?
LAST 3. Yes he is guys, and that?s what makes for a compelling match-up.
Remember that the ?Filipino Flash??based on his last three fights hasn?t exactly been the dominant fighter we have come to know.
He lost to Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux via unanimous in April 2013, and though the latter secured the victory by avoiding a real fight, many fans expected Donaire to be able to handle the much smaller Rigo, who was at that time an unknown commodity.
He then engaged Darchinyan in a rematch in which he got tagged with big shots in the early part of the fight. His power was evident and in fact, earned him the victory, but he was in trouble against an opponent he easily knocked out before.
In his last fight against Simpiwe Vetyeka, he managed to score a knockdown in round 4 and the fight was stopped in the next round due to an accidental head-butt.
Again, the power was there, but the performance woefully paled in comparison to dominant displays of power and speed against the likes of Jorge Arce, Fernando Montiel and Toshiaki Nishioka.
MATCHUP. The knack on Walters is his lack of experience against top- caliber fighters He hasn?t had enough world championship fights and so he?s practically an enigma.
Donaire will probably have a better matchup with him than Vetyevka, since Walters prefers to mix it up. The Filipino Flash is at his best knocking the living bejeezus out of opponents who come forward with no regard for defense.
However, Walters in an inch taller and will enjoy a 5 inch reach advantage and so he might not be an easy target if he opts to jab and keep out of harm?s way.
However, he is an aggressive fighter and most likely will look for exchanges on the inside, so it?s going to be a case of which fighters gets his licks in first.
I think Nonito takes him out in round 10 in a war of attrition,
DOING THE ROUNDS. Right now is a video purportedly showing Floyd Mawyeather losing a tooth in the third round in his fight against Marcos Maidana.

Just as the bell was about to sound the end of the third, Maidana charges in and lands a right hand on Floyd?s mouth. The latter wobbles momentarily, hangs on to the ropes and then sits down.
That was probably the best punch of the night for Maidana as we all know that he wasn?t able to follow up on that and was outfought by his cunning, cerebral opponent.
Still, it certainly looks like Floyd is missing a tooth nowadays- which is damning evidence of how he is deteriorating with each fight.
