FOR sure this archipelago of 7,100++ islands, high tide or low tide, the entire population will trek craggy or paved roads, cross shallow or deep waters ala “Ain’t No mountain High Enough, Ain’t No river Wide enough” — to keep them from getting to the nearest viewing station of the fight of the year, the PacMan the Destroyer versus Erik “El Terrible” Morales match. This will be the third encounter of this battering Super Featherweight duo.
As early as the announcement of the match, the TV and satellite stations were battling each other to get exclusive coverage of this match. Big moolah! I am pretty sure that even anyone can open their subscribed newspapers today, they are getting ready to head to were all the action is, either the mall cinema, the friendly neighborhood bars or wherever the fight will be aired. Beer will be a good substitute for coffee on this early hour.
So who are you rooting for? This would be a totally inane question to pose to every Pinoy. With a very strong chance of taking home the crown, the 27-year-old Pacman aka Manny Pacquiao is being elevated to the ranks of a National Hero, this the coined name of Pambansang Kamao, thus the new face of the Five Peso bill. A great idea I must say but Feng Shui-wise, not another good design since it depicts fighting, again. According to the geomancers who have covered the Philippine’s chance of recovering from debt, poverty, or political destruction, we might just have to change a lot of things. Monetary design and text is one of them.
Back to the topic of the next national hero, Emmanuel D. Pacquiao born in Bukidnon and resides in General Santos City, who I guess will appear in a Philippine Stamp pretty soon, to start his great recognition.
This much is true, for a single day, I guess each and every Pinoy will be united and cheer a “national” figure. Far different from the international football games where each has his own team to cheer for. But here and now, it’s a Pinoy.
How about carrying this united front and try to cheer for a better government? The legit way, at least.
Boxing brought this man to fame. With fame comes money and yes, power. It is unbelievable how many products this guy has endorsed. He even turned down a golden opportunity to come out in an international TV commercial with Kobe Bryant for Nike. He may just have been the first Pinoy and boxer in the roster of highly-acclaimed athletes like Tiger Woods and Sharapova. Well, at least he still had Surf, Alaxan, MacDonald’s, SMB, Darlington socks and the running Datu Puti vinegar (to name a few). There will definitely be more offers after this fight.
Now this will be a better question for everyone: If you were the PacMan, which product or service will you be endorsing next considering that all these will be offering the “right” amount?
1. How about a feminine wash? Why not? With millions of women adoring this man’s body (some may just find him really cute. Subjective.) and money, he can do the job. “Ang special woman ko, laging fresh…. Kaya lagi akong napapalaban, woooooo!”
2. A durian product line? Hmmmm, “Matinik tulad ko, pero masarap…” After all, this guy is from Mindanao.
3. Shampoo? “Dati hindi ako nagsa-shine, after using… (shampoo product)… naG-shine ako, hayun nasilaw ang kalaban ko at na TKO ko sa first round pa lang.”
4. Dra. Victoria Bella. “I would like to thank Dra Bella, sabi nila kamukha ko sa daw si Jericho Rosales. E ako naman talaga yung gumanap sa sarili ko sa pelikula ko.”
The possibilities are endless…
Let’s cheer for this country’s flag-bearer and wish for the best that he retains the title!
Now everybody grab the Magic Sing (endorsed by PacMan as well) and with one voice sing!!!!!!!! “Para sa ‘yo and laban na ‘to… Para sa yo-ho-ho and laban na ‘to…”
