2014 has been somewhat of a buzzkill for boxing. Coming off of a three-year run in which we?ve seen super bouts like Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez, Mayweather-Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez; we?ve instead been served with hyped up mismatches and false promises. Golden Boy Promotions guaranteed to make the best matches possible and gave us Danny Garcia-Rod Salka, and Lamont Peterson-Edgar Santana. Top Rank vowed to deliver better undercards, and did so by producing a pathetic lead up to Miguel Cotto-Sergio Martinez. Last year by this time, we witnessed Fight of the Year nominees like Timothy Bradley-Ruslan Provodnikov, Brandon Rios-Mike Alvarado and Omar Figueroa-Nihito Arakawa; this year, the pool for fight of the year looks to be shallow.
