NBA -- Warriors reclaim top spot in the West By Joan Secuya-Medida PhilBoxing.com Tue, 11 Dec 2018  OAKLAND -- Don't look now, but the Golden State Warriors are suddenly back in their usual place in the Western Conference standings -- No.1. After a robust 5-0 streak to start their back-to-back title defense, the Warriors went through a slump that was largely attributed to injuries, including a groin injury that sidelined ace Steph Curry for 11 games. They lost four games in a row from November 13 to November 21, the most under coach Steve Kerr's watch, and were teetering near the bottom rung of the West ladder. But it has been a smoother sailing ever since Curry's return and following a 105-95 victory over the Bucks in Milwaukee last Friday, the Warriors have put together a three-game winning streak that shoved their record to 18-9 and just 2.5 games behind the Toronto Raptors for the best overall record in the entire NBA. This shows the rest of the league that when healthy, the Warriors are still the team to beat when the 2019 NBA Finals rolls along this June. Through 27 games, the Warriors are averaging 116.4 points per game while grabbing 45.4 rebounds and 28 assists per. They convert 52 percent of their two-point field goals and 32.7 percent of their threes. The triumvirate of Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson remain the fulcrum of Golden State's offense as the All-Star trio is norming a combined 81.3 points an outing. These Warriors will go as far as Durant, Curry and Thompson will take them. And based on the numbers, its looks pretty far, more like another title, a 3-peat. Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets, the Warriors' fiercest rival, who took them all the way to Game 7 of last May's West Conference Finals, continues to struggle.
